Fidya is a charitable payment made when someone cannot fast in Ramadan and is not able to make up the missed fasts later (for example, due to old age or a long-term/chronic illness). In practice, it is fulfilled by feeding a person in need for each day of fasting missed.
Fidya is commonly described as feeding one person in need for each missed fast.
At Medics Across Continents, we are delivering Fidya by providing food support at a rate of £3 per day (per missed fast) — helping ensure someone in need receives a meal through our programmes.
Fitrana (also called Zakat al-Fitr) is an obligatory charity given at the end of Ramadan so that people in need can share in the joy of Eid.
Fitrana should be paid during Ramadan, and no later than before the Eid prayer so it can reach those who need it in time.
It is paid per person. You give it for yourself and (commonly) for those you are responsible for in your household.
This Ramadan, Medics Across Continents is delivering Fitrana as essential food support at £5 per person—helping families receive support before Eid.
