Across Pakistan, many low-income and rural families still can’t rely on drinking water that is safe, available when needed, and free from contamination. The most recent UN SDG 6 (WHO/UNICEF JMP) country data shows that 45% of Pakistan’s population uses a safely managed drinking water service, while 91% uses at least a basic drinking water service (latest reporting shown as 2022–2024).

That gap matters: it means a large share of families may be using an “improved” source, but it still doesn’t meet safety/availability standards. That’s why we’re launching this handpump project: a properly installed community handpump can provide a closer, more protected water point for families who otherwise depend on unsafe surface water or compromised sources—helping reduce exposure to waterborne illness and giving communities a more reliable daily water option.
